Fish handling systems proven on board with Napier

With the Optimar systems proven on board the stun and bleed vessel, Tauroa, Napier has signed a new agreement for Optimar deliveries to two additional vessels: Tautiki and Tauriko. The deliveries from Optimar include fish logistics and outbleeding systems, based on solutions that have now been tested and verified at sea.

From estimates to everyday operations

From the start of the project, capacity and performance were carefully calculated through close dialogue between Optimar, Napier and subcontractors.

– It is very satisfying to see that the system is delivering exactly as high capacities as planned, says Håvard Worren, Sales Manager Aquaculture at Optimar.

Tauroa has been delivered, christened and put into operation, achieving the expected high capacity and confirming that the solution works exceptionally on board.

Gentle fish handling

At the core of the delivery, in addition to fish logistics, is Optimar’s Optitube outbleed system. The technology transports fish using a spiral water flow, with no moving mechanical parts. This ensures gentle fish handling and a reliable operation. On board Napier’s vessels, the system is used for outbleeding.

– The technology is relatively young, and it’s encouraging to see that it works so well on board vessels. We’re experiencing increasing interest in this type of system for this segment, Worren explains.

The cooled water that is circulated through Optimar’s equipment contributes to an effective cooling effect on the fish as part of the overall process. The solution is fully scalable and can also be applied in land-based facilities.

Experience that strengthens the next delivery

Close collaboration with Napier has been key throughout the project. Experience from the first delivery has resulted in small adjustments and simplifications that are now being implemented in the next vessels.

– There are always details you discover once a vessel is in operation. Being able to apply those learnings directly to the next delivery makes the solutions even better, Worren says.

CEO of Napier, Kjetil Tufteland, highlights the importance of this approach:

– Ambitions to lead an industry require collaboration with suppliers who take experience and innovation seriously. The drive and ability to pursue continuous improvement are core values at Napier, and something we both expect and experience from Optimar through their important deliveries to our vessels.

A thorough partner and a strong match

Napier is known as a highly competent and demanding shipowner, something Optimar sees as a clear advantage.– We’re proud to work with Napier. They are thorough, experienced and not afraid to challenge us. That kind of collaboration pushes us to deliver better solutions, says Worren.Optimar now looks forward to continuing the close cooperation with Napier, building on solutions that are proven on board and designed to make everyday operations better.
