Loran and Optimar set the standard for local partnerships
When the fishing vessel Loran was built in 1999, Optimar delivered the factory solution on board. Since then, the collaboration has evolved into a long-term partnership founded on mutual trust, effective communication, and several successful retrofit projects.
We caught up with captain and co-owner Per Morten Aarseth while Loran was docked outside our headquarters at Valderøya.
– We’re here to install four new plate freezers, securing top-quality fish handling for years to come. For us, quality is everything – and together with Optimar we’re able to deliver the very best, says Aarseth.
Optimar has been part of the journey from the very beginning, from the newbuild in 1999 to the modernization of today.
– It’s something special to follow a vessel throughout its lifetime. We’ve grown together with Loran, and that creates a truly unique partnership, says Marius Sorthe, Sales Manager Aftersales, Retrofit & Upgrades at Optimar.
When we need help with something, it’s just a short trip up to Optimar on Valderøya. That proximity means a lot to us – and to the local community we’re part of.

Highlights the importance of working with a local partner
– When we need help with something, it’s just a short trip up to Optimar on Valderøya. That proximity means a lot to us – and to the local community we’re part of.
For Optimar, this is a textbook example of what happens when local knowledge meets modern technology.
– We know the shipowners, we know the crew, and we know how to find the right solutions together. The cooperation has always been strong, and that results in great results, Sorthe explains.
He adds that this trust is what drives Optimar forward.
– The trust Loran has shown us through all these years is perhaps the best proof of what Optimar aims to be: a partner who’s there day and night, says Sorthe.
