ScaleAQ gained full control of net impregnation all year round

For many companies in the aquaculture industry, net impregnation is still a weather-dependent and unpredictable operation. At Hitra, ScaleAQ has changed that. With a dedicated indoor impregnation station, the company now has full control of the process – regardless of weather and season.

At the core of the solution is Optimar’s Net Impregnator, integrated into a complete and efficient station.

– This is a great example of how the right technology can improve operations, working conditions and energy efficiency at the same time, says Magne Bjørge, Sales Manager Aquaculture at Optimar.

From weather-dependent work to controlled indoor operations

Previously, the nets were hung in cranes and dried outdoors. Today, the entire impregnation process takes place inside a dedicated station, where Optimar drums, cranes and winches are integrated into one continuous workflow.

The impregnator itself is recessed into the floor, while drying is handled through a CO₂-based system installed above the facility. The solution provides stable and energy-efficient drying, completely independent of weather conditions and outdoor temperatures.

– The customer now has a completely different level of predictability in daily operations. The work can be planned throughout the entire year, says Bjørge.

Precise dosing and safer handling

The system gives operators full control over both the selection and dosing of impregnation chemicals, while also making it easy to switch between different products. Once the process is complete, handling is drip-free, providing several operational advantages:

  • Less spillage and a cleaner working area
  • Safer working conditions
  • Better control of chemical usage
  • Easier handling of the nets in the next process step

– This is about both quality and HSE. Less spillage creates a safer working environment and reduces the risk of emissions, says Bjørge.

Energy-efficient drying with lower operating costs

The CO₂-based drying solution provides low energy consumption and consistent drying quality. The result is lower operating costs and a more sustainable solution – without compromising capacity or quality.

– Our job is to deliver solutions that make everyday operations easier and more predictable for our customers. That is exactly what we have achieved here, Bjørge concludes.
