Stun and bleed

The Stun & Bleed system takes care of the fish from the moment it enters alive until a humane killing is completed. The system is designed to improve animal welfare, enable full automation, allow easy cleaning, and provide access for simple process monitoring. Several options are available for handling different species and maximizing profitability.

How it works:

After the live fish has been delivered from a previous system, it slides over a dewatering chute that removes any excess water used to transport it into the system. The fish then enters a swim-in unit filled with water, where it may move on its own and thus proceed head-first into our electric stunner. Here, the fish is paralyzed and at the same time conveyed into our Gill Cutting Robot. It receives a gill cut, allowing it to be killed and initiating the bleeding process. Finally, there is a control station where an operator can verify that all fish have been sufficiently killed as they are moved by conveyor to the next step in the process. The cutting position is determined by a computer vision system that calculates where to place the cut based on training data and artificial intelligence.

If new species are requested, it is necessary for us to assess the amount of training data required for the computer vision system to recognize that specific species and determine the correct cutting position, and also to evaluate whether the cutting mechanism must be adapted accordingly.
